1 Anna (Four Pice):
This denomination was issued for the first time in Cupro- Nickel during the reign of King Edward VII.


A.   King Edward VII. (1901 - 1910)

Specifications
Years of issue – 1907 to 1910
Metal composition –  Cupro Nickel alloy(75% Copper + 25% Nickel)
Weight –  60 grains (3.88 gms)
Shape –  Scalloped(12 numbers)
Size – 0.827” max, 0.7795” min (20.5 mm)
Edge – unmilled plain
Obv –  Crowned bust of Edward VII, with legend written, ‘EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR’ around his effigy.
Rev – The value of the coin is shown in 5 languages – ‘AN1NA’ in English at the center, in Persian at top left corner, in Hindi at bottom left corner, in Bengali  at bottom right corner and in Telugu at top right corner. The date of issue appears below the value numeral ‘1’.

Note: A small incuse ‘B’ is found in the king’s crown on the obverse.

B.   King George V. (1910 - 1936)

Specifications
Years of issue – 1912 to 1920, 1923 to 1930, 1933 to 1936
Obv –  Legend ‘GEORGE  V KING EMPEROR’ around the Crowned bust of King George  V.
Minted atBombay(1912 to 1920, 1923 to 1928, 1935, 1936), Calcutta(1924 to 1930, 1933 to 1935)

All other specifications same as King Edward VII issue.

Note:
i). Mint Marks: -
a) Bombay Mint – No mint mark from 1912 to 1923. From 1924 to 1936 -- Dot below date.
b) Calcutta Mint – From 1924 to 1935, no dot present.

C.   King George VI. (1936 - 1947)

i) In Cupro - Nickel

Specifications
Years of issue – 1938 to 1941, 1946, 1947
Obv – Crowned head of King George VI, with Continuous legend ‘GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR’ on outer periphery around his crowned head.
Minted atBombay(1938 to 1941, 1946, 1947), Calcutta(1938 to 1941, 1946, 1947),      Lahore(1946)
Km Number # 536, 537, 538

Metal composition –  Nickel – Brass alloy (79% Copper + 20% Zinc + 1% Nickel)
